Your Parents’ Association
Introducing the SLSA
The St Laurence School Association is the PTA of the School. It was established in the 1980s to run social events for parents and children at the school, to encourage the unification of Trinity Secondary Modern with Fitzmaurice Grammar schools. The SLSA encourages parental engagement in their child’s education, through joining in with social and other fundraising activities. From these roots, the SLSA has gone on to raise funds for school resources and infrastructure, via donations and events.
We are pleased to announce that over £530 was raised from our recent uniform sale and that was added to our Quiz Night (£920) and Fireworks (£1000) funds, so we have been spending money on school projects.
Over £3000 has been donated to Science for textbooks, making up class sets of student equipment, replacing broken items and funding demo’ kits. 3 notebooks have been funded for Additional Educational Needs and 3 years subscription to Linguascope for Modern Foreign Language study. 2 picnic tables, seating 8 students for the Sixth Form and 2 Kenwood Premier Chef food mixers for Food Tech’.
Look out for your invite to our Golf Day with BBQ on Saturday 7th September at Cumberwell Park, 3 par course, putting competition, raffle and food. A great way to meet school family contacts after the summer break.
Our first meeting of the new school year and AGM will be on Monday 16th September at the school. All our other dates for the year ahead will be in the school calendar, so put them in your diary too.
Thank you to the regular attendees at our meetings (Maria Hirsch, Belinda Wicks) who helped decide how to spend the money and our other supporters who helped with this year’s events and fundraisers. Special thanks to our officers, Alison Flindall (Secretary) and Tom Naysmith (Treasurer) without whom we could not run. We will need a new Chairperson from the AGM, please look at the job description on the SLSA page of the school website or contact me direct.
If you wish to make a uniform donation, please print and complete the gift aid form below and put that in your donation bag when you had it in at school reception.
Who are the SLSA now?
The SLSA is run by a group of parents who take on organisational roles, supplemented by a larger team of volunteers at our events. We have an AGM in October and other meetings during the year as required. In June, we meet to allocate funds raised to school projects.
