Admissions into Year 7 for September 2017 – How to Apply

For entry into Year 7, parents must complete Wiltshire Council’s secondary school admissions form, in hard copy or electronically, by 31st October 2016. On this form parents are invited to state up to three ranked preferences and, as far as possible, applicants will be offered a place at a school for which they have expressed a preference. St Laurence School’s admission limit for entry into Year 7 is 232 students. Admission into Year 7 is co-ordinated by a Transition coordinator.

Copies of the application from can be obtained from Wiltshire Council’s Admissions Team at County Hall
Bythesea Road
BA14 8JN

Please contact the Admissions Team at County Hall on 01225 713000 for further details of how to apply.

Due to significant rising trends we strongly recommend that parents must place St Laurence School as their “first preference” and apply on time if they are to secure a place.

Please refer to the school’s Admission Policy for criteria applied in the event of oversubscription. Students with statements of Special Educational Needs are required to be admitted to the school named on their statement.

For those who are successful in gaining a place, the first parents meeting will be held on Thursday 6th April between 6.30-8.30pm. This year we are having two Year 6 Induction days where all students will need to attend both. These whole days at St Laurence will take place on Thursday 29th June and Thursday 6th July 2017 (more details will follow).

Parents who are allocated a place at St Laurence School should return the reply slip to the Local Authority by 15 March 2016 (or reply online to Wiltshire Council if an online application was made). Parents who no longer wish to take up an offer of a place for their child should notify the School and Wiltshire Council immediately so that it can be offered to a child on our waiting list.

If you are not allocated a place at St Laurence, please consider the suggestions below:

Appeals for Admission to St Laurence School in September 2017

If you wish to appeal the decision not to allocate a place at St Laurence School you should notify the School of this decision in writing by Friday 28th April 2017. Please download and complete the Appeals Form referring to the guidance notes available to download below and return it to the School at the address given (or email / tel: 01225 309506 to request a hard copy by post).

An independent Appeals Panel will be established to hear all appeals.

The appeal will be held within 40 school days of the deadline for making an appeal. The panel will be made up of three independent people who will consider:

  • Whether the admission authority followed its own admission policy and if it had good reasons for not offering your child a place (eg the school was over-subscribed and other children met the over-subscription criteria more closely).
  • Whether your child’s need to be at the school is greater than the effects on other children in the school of having additional children at the school.
  • Your reasons for wanting your child to attend the school.
  • Any supporting evidence that might be relevant to your case.
