At present, along with all other schools in the country, St Laurence School premises remain mainly closed. We are playing our part in supporting the NHS and other vital services in providing childcare in this emergency situation. A small number of staff is on site each day for this reason. In addition we are now engaged in a face to face programme with our year 10 and 12 students. Currently other students cannot yet be on site and we are closed to all visitors.

Our letters and other information you need from us are shown on this page – please follow the links and check for our updates. It is vital we ALL follow Government guidelines about our daily routines, however hard and inconvenient – that way we will save lives – please see the links at the bottom of this page and elsewhere on the website.

While the premises are closed, St Laurence is still at work!

  • Teachers are providing work for students on Class Charts. We have also provided a range of challenge ideas for our year 11 and 13 students to help them make good use of this unexpected and difficult time.
  • Our pastoral and SEND staff are maintaining regular contact with a range of students – we are still here to provide care, advice and support.
  • We are constantly looking ahead to ways we can refine and develop our support for students over the coming months.

We know how challenging these times are for parents, carers and families, who have been forced into a very unusual set of circumstances. If you need advice about how to support your children at home, please feel free to contact us via your child’s Head of House or Assistant Head of House in the first instance – they will be able to direct your questions to the most appropriate member of staff.

These circumstances are unprecedented. They are teaching us all about our limitations but also about how strong we are when we work together. As a staff we have been touched by the many messages of support we have received from our school community. At St Laurence we say that people are our treasure, as a gift from God, and are far more important than narrow definitions of educational excellence. How little did we know just how pertinent those words would become!

We shared the prayer below with our year 11 and 13 students as the news about the cancellation of exams arrived. It’s relevant for us all:

Lord, circle this school and protect all that we value:
Eagerness to learn
Space to grow,
Flowering of talents
A sense of wonder,
appreciation of beauty,
great dreams and a desire for ‘the more’.

Lord, circle this school and protect all that we value:
The art of listening,
Respect for all,
Service of others.
Stage, art and music,
Warmth of friendship,
Contribution to the team.

Lord, circle this school and protect all that we value:
Care for the earth,
Reverence for life,
Compassion on all.
Breadth of experience,
Time for reflection,
Boldness in action.

Lord, circle this school and protect all that we value:
In all things, a harmony of head, heart and hands
In all things finding you
May you be Lord of our hearts, mover of our spirits; may we be signs of your presence in Christ’s love for others.
Lord, circle this school for you are the source of all that is good and right and true.

Stay safe – stay connected – stay hopeful
